ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR
Cynthia A. White
Cynthia White came to Brookings from Clark, SD in 1988 with her husband
Jeff and two sons, Michael and Jon, to attend SDSU. Cindy worked part time
as a lab assistant throughout her academic career and received her Bachelor
of Science Degree from South Dakota State University in the spring of 1991,
with majors in Microbiology and Biology, and a minor in Chemistry. After
graduation, Cindy worked as a Research Associate in the Biology/Microbiology
Department, where she was actively involved in research on plant growth
and development. While at SDSU, she co-authored two research papers and
participated in the presentation of four additional papers at scientific
meetings, resulting in abstracts published in regional or national journals.
In the spring of 1994, Cindy and her family moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa,
where she accepted a position as Microbiologist for the SANOFI Company
(now Rhone-Merieux). Cindy has since been promoted to Quality Control Microbiology
Supervisor and was also recently made responsible for the plant's Environmental
Control Program. Her success and hard work in the fields of biology and
microbiology have contributed to her selection as the Outstanding Alumnus
of the Year for the Biology/Microbiology Department, and reflect the qualities
that help to make South Dakota State University and its graduates an asset
to the nation.
