pr1-m(Ac?)

A mutable allele of pr1 was found in a plant that was heterozygous pr1/Pr1 where the dominant allele was cis with P1-vv on translocation T1-5(4613).  The behavior of the new allele is dosage sensitive.  When heterozygous with pr1 the kernels are mostly blue with red sectors (see two examples to the right).  When homozygous, the affected kernels are mostly red with smaller patches of blue.  Attempts have been made to break the linkage between the pr1-m allele with P1-vv.  In every case so far the result has been that the mutability has been lost and the allele behaves like Pr1.  To test whether this was due to the loss of Ac transactivation (i.e., the mutability was due to a Ds element), several putative full color revertants were crossed with Ac-im from Tom Brutnell and then selfed.  No mutable kernels were observed.  Further genetic tests will be pursued to help define the basis for the mutability.

The ear is semisterile since it was from a plant that was heterozygous for T1-5(4613). pr1-m seg ear
