Term Paper - Use journal format from one of the professional mammal research journals or the Journal of Wildlife Management in writing the term paper. The paper should be double spaced, including the literature cited. The paper should be from 4-6 pages in length with 2.4 cm margins. Choose recent papers on a subject of interest and write your manuscript using this information. Writing, as well as content, will be graded.
Popular Article - Use a popular magazine format to write an article concerning an area of interest that you have. The article should be from 1200-1800 words. Popular articles should be written in a form that the general public can read and enjoy. Include diagrams, charts, or pictures. If the article is of sufficient quality, we will attempt to publish it.
The last day that you have to hand in either paper is December 1. The following schedule also applies:
If your paper is handed in by:
October 1 + 4 points
October 15 + 3 points
November 1 + 2 points
November 15 + 1 points
Field Trips - There may be several field trips outside of the regularly scheduled time. You will be expected to go on these trips. If you cannot go, you must arrange a substitute activity for the field trip.

Dishonesty Policy
Cheating on any exam or class assignments
will result in a zero for that activity. A definition of "cheating" is
found in the SDSU Student Policies Manual, Section 01:10:01 on cheating,
plagiarism and facilitating academic dishonesty. See also the Biology/Microbiology
Department Dishonesty Policy for further details. Fulfillment of assigned
projects must represent the original work of each student. Plagiarism is
not appropriate.
Drop Date
If you choose to drop
this course, please complete the departmental drop form and bring it to
class. Have the instructor sign the form and return it to the Registrar's
Office.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is not taken in
lecture, but you are responsible for all material. Labs generally cannot
be made up. Tests may be made up for excused absences only. Cheating
will result in a zero on the exam (see above for dishonesty policy).
Students with Disabilities
If you are a
person with a disability and anticipate needing any type of accommodation in
order to participate in this class, please inform me and make the appropriate
arrangements with the Office of Disability Services (ODS). The Office of
Disability Services is located in 110 West Hall. To schedule an appointment
call (605) 688-4504 and request to speak with Nancy L. Schade, the Coordinator
of Disability Services.
Bonus Points
For the laboratory portion of the
class, students may complete a study skin mount for 20 points extra credit.
Within the lecture, students
have the option of handing in both the term paper and popular article early
for extra points (ranging from +1 to +4 points.)
You are also encouraged to talk with your instructor to review your progress
or answer any questions regarding grade determination.
