| The male mosquito can be differentiated by the plummated antennae and proboscis. Some males of certain genera are less plummate, but their palpi appear jointed. | The Anopheles mosquitoes have palpi (Pa) that are almost as long, or as long as their proboscis (Pr). The palpi do not appear jointed and their antennae are not as plummate as those of the males mosquitoes. | All other genera of female mosquitoes have palpi (Pa) that are less than half the length of their proboscis. They also do not have plummated antennae. |
