Coquillettidia perturbans
At first glance, this genus resembles mosquitoes from
the Culex genus.
The very broad scales on the dorsal surface on the wing distinguishes
Coquillettidia
perturbans from members of the Culex species.

The Culex tarsalis on the left is similar in size
to the Coquillettidia perturbans; however, the banding on the proboscis
and legs of these two species is quite different. The white band on the
proboscis of the Culex tarsalis is much more pronounced. The Coquillettidia
perturbans has banded tarsi, like the Culex tarsalis, but the
Cq.
perturbans also has bands on the femur, the femur of the Cx. tarsalis
is unbanded. Below is a magnified view of the two species' proboscises.
