ANIMAL RESOURCES AT SDSU

1.download a SDSU-IACUC Animal Usage Form from the IACUC homepage;
2.provide the requested information on the form;
3.submit the form to Janice Kampmann (Dept. Vet. Science; 688-6649) by the 15th of each month;
4.the submitted usage forms will be evaluated by the IACUC and approval will be voted upon at the committee's monthly meeting (held towards the end of each month);
5.submitting faculty are encouraged to attend this meeting to answer possible question posed by the committee;
6.approved applications will be assigned a IACUC number.
7.submitting faculty will be notified of the committee's decision by letter;

1.All animal procurements must be made through the Livestock Superintendent, but faculty may specify the animal supplier. Faculty must provide the Superintendent with an account number for the purchase and subsequent housing of any animal prior to acquiring the animal(s).
2.All researchers are required to complete and file an SDSU-IACUC prior to the start of any research involving departmental animal housing and care (see above). With the exception of breeding colonies, no animal will be housed for more than one week if not part of an approved experiment.
3.It is recommended that you notify the Livestock Superintendent of your need for animals and housing at least two weeks in advance; if this is not possible, please notify the Superintendent as soon as possible.
4.All interstate shipment of animals must be accompanied with health papers.
5.The termination date for the project must be established in advance. Final arrangements for the termination of a project or animals must be at least 48 hours in advance.
6.A room card must be acquired from the Superintendent, completed and signed.
7.A list of personnel requiring access to the animals must be provided. These personnel must go through an orientation with the Superintendent concerning the procedures and areas of access.
8.The Superintendent must be notified in writing of any special needs (i.e. diet, housing, handling, equipment, supplies, etc.)
9.Assistance in handling or constraint by animal caretaker staff requires a minimum of 24 hours prior notice.
