ANIMAL RESOURCES AT SDSU     

SDSU has chosen to comply with all applicable provisions of the U.S.A. Animal Welfare Act and other Federal statutes and regulations relating to animals. Therefore, SDSU faculty that wish to use vertebrate animals in their research or teaching programs must first receive approval from the SDSU Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). This committee has been commissioned at SDSU to oversee the University's animal programs, facilities and procedures. To receive committee approval for animal use, the faculty member must: Approved facilities for housing rodents, swine, cattle, rabbits and poultry are available in the Department of Veterinary Science. No facilities are available at SDSU for housing dogs, cats or primates. Arrangements for housing must be made through the Veterinary Science Department's Livestock Superintendent, Scott Kistler (688-5694), and are contingent on available space. The following protocol must be fulfilled: Per diem rates are listed below:

Rabbit (pregnant) $1.75 /rabbit/day
Chicken $1.00 /chicken/day
Ducks $1.00 /duck/day
Pigs (adult) $3.50 /pig/day
Pig (pregnant in crates) $10.00 /pig/day
Sheep (inside) $4.00 /sheep/day
Sheep (outside) $1.50 /sheep/day
Cow (inside) $10.00 /cow/day
