Science Camp 2008
1st day-
First day of camp camps came
between 4 and 6 pm. I happened to get here at 5:45pm. First we started to
introduce ourselves to each other. Then we went and ate at 6:15. Witch is not
normal because we usually eat at 6. Then after that we came back to the
lab/classroom. There we made a few things that we would be using through the
week. Such as a bug catcher, a plant press, secchi
disk, and a bug box. We also handed out water bottles and field books. Then
after we got all done with that we went back to the bunk house some people went
to take a shower. So the night just went on from there people talking and
laughing their way to sleep.
2nd day-
On
Monday every body got up and ate breakfast, we had cereal and toast also fruit juice.
Then people did their morning things. Witch for me meant taking a shower
brushing teeth and unfortunately having dishes duty for that dayL ,
but the day went on. First thing after that was plant vegetation walk to
collect plants for our plant press that we had made. We went from about 9 until
noon. Then we went to lunch, which consists of lunch meat for sandwiches, chips
and apple juice. Next we did a activity were we took a
GPS system and went looking for bags of candy. That was pretty fun.
Next we took our secchi disk down to the lake and measured the transparent
of the water, and then swim, that was nice and refreshing.
Then we had free time for an
hour or so, followed by lunch that was tatter tot hot dish. After that we went
back to the lab and look at stuff that we found in the water. Finally we got to
go back to the bunk house and have root beer floats and just relaxe.
3rd day-
Today I really
liked because I like birds. We had a special guest come his name was Dr.
Jensen. He is a bird expert. What happened was we went out and set four bird
traps. But first we talked about birds and what it was going to be like out in
the field. So anyways we went out there after the traps where already set, we
found three birds!!! We brought them back and tagged them. We also did certain
things such as weigh, check gender and measure wing length. We did this to more
then just those three. It was pretty neat!
Next was just lunch nothing
really exiting there. But what we did after that was cool. What we did was we
took the boat down to the lake and four at a time we went out and took eckman dredge samples. While four did that the other four
searched for aquatic insects. We
got to pick out our favorite ones and persevere them
in a special container. My favorite one was a craw fish. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crayfish)
Then it was just fun time where we swam. Finally once again it was dinner
time!! Today was fried chicken and potato wedges!! Next it was work time; this
meant labeling our plants and stuff like that.
4th day
Today was fun. First it started the same as any other day,
breakfast and shower. Then the first activity that we did was go bug hunting.
That was sweet; we look for bugs for out bug collection. We have also talked
about their habitats. Then it was lunch
time same-o-same-o. Next we went out and gathered
The last day.
It’s the last day!!! I love camp but I also love my own bed.
Anyways I woke up this day wanting to just get up and go. So th
at’s what I did I got all of my stuff together grab a
breakfast bar and go to it. The day started off with Dr. Krueger. He is a
specialist in forest stuff and trees. What we did was go out in the field and
take tree samples. It was cool. Then we brought them back and look at how old
they are and like its growth rate and oxygen level of that year. Next after
lunch we checked our mammal traps. I had a 13 lined ground squeal. It was neat.
Then we came back to the lab and dissected owl pellets. Now it is the last
dinner so what we do after that makes our banners for the camp. So it has been
a good summer camp and cant wait to come back.
