Northern Plains NEON Regional Consortium

***NEW***NPNEON submitted three documents in response to the NSF RFI as part of the Consortium for Connectivity at Continental Scales (3CS).

Core Wildland and Satellite Gradient Sites for the Northern Plains Domain [file size = 4 Mb] is an overview document that describes the two core wildland alternative sites, eight recommended gradient sites, two partner sites, and three other sites.

Details of the proposed core wildland alternative sites are described in the other two documents:

Central Grasslands Research Extension Center and Woodworth Field Station. Both core wildland alternative sites are in central North Dakota. Contact Dr. Wei Lin of the NPNEON Planning Committee for further information (Wei.Lin@ndsu.nodak.edu).  The RFI responses are being reviewed by NSF - posted 6 February 2007 by Carol Johnston.

The Consortium of Regional Ecological Observatories (COREO) asked NPNEON and the other NEON domains to identify candidate NEON sites for the coordinated RFI response.

A NEON RFI Response meeting was held November 29 - 30, 2006 at Las Cruces, NM. The meeting was co-sponsored by the Consortium of Regional Ecological Observatories (COREO) and the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Program. This meeting was open to anyone who wished to attend and was held on the campus of New Mexico State University. A report from Dr. Wei Lin who attended as an NPNEON representative is available at this link: Las Cruces Report.

The 1 November 2006 NEON RFI Webcast and RFI Slideshow are now available online. To view go to www.neoninc.org. - November 2006

Also available at www.neoninc.org are revised project documents submitted to the National Science Foundation panel that will conduct a Conceptual Design Review of NEON on November 6-9, 2006. These documents include: (1) the Integrated Science and Education Plan (ISEP), which has been substantively improved by several rounds of community comment, (2) the Networking and Informatics Baseline Design (NIBD), a description of the cyberinfrastructure that will support and enable the National Ecological Observatory Network, and (3) the Request for Information (RFI), a call for information from the environmental science community to further refine the design and specifications of NEON. - November 2006

Minutes from the 8 March 2006 Planning Committee meeting.

The draft version of the Site Independent Design document is now available at the NEON website. - March 2006
